Election 2028: seal Napo’s running mate slot before lobbying begins – Musah Superior to Bawumia

A leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Musah Superior, has called on the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to name his running mate before the end of the year, arguing that delays could trigger internal distractions.

Superior, a former mayor of Tamale, said in a Facebook post that the rationale behind the party’s early selection of its presidential candidate should also apply to the choice of a running mate.

“The argument we made for the early election of the flagbearer is still relevant in the selection of Running Mate,” he wrote.

He warned that prolonged lobbying and competition for the position could divert attention from the party’s broader electoral strategy.

“Prolonged jostling, lobbying for the job may distract us,” Superior said.

Consistency
He added that he personally supports retaining Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as Napo, as running mate, citing consistency as a key factor in the party’s earlier decision-making.

“Consistency was one of the major reasons why we gave DMB that strong mandate. We must not depart from that,” he stated.

The NPP is preparing for the next general election, and internal discussions over the composition of its presidential ticket are expected to intensify in the coming months.
