
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emerged as the frontrunner in the Ashanti Region’s New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries, securing 19,700 votes.
This represents a significant lead over his closest competitor, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, who garnered 8,603 votes.
Dr. Bryan Acheampong came in third with 4,642 votes, followed by Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum with 888 votes, and Ing. Kwabena Agyapong with 60 votes.
The results, announced after voting concluded, show a total of 33,893 valid votes cast, with 48 rejected ballots.
The Ashanti Region, a key constituency in the NPP’s presidential primaries, has 36,626 delegates, representing 17.29% of the total electorate.
The region’s results are seen as a crucial indicator of the party’s overall performance, with Bawumia’s lead suggesting strong support among delegates.
The election process was conducted under tight security, with the Ghana Police Service deploying personnel to all polling centers.
