President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that work has begun on 50 major road projects spanning 1,144 kilometres as part of his government’s flagship Big Push initiative.
Delivering the 2026 State of the Nation Address in Parliament, the President said the government has prioritised the road sector, aiming to open economic corridors, create jobs, and reduce the cost of doing business.
“Mr Speaker, as I speak to you, work has started on 50 major road projects that cover a distance of 1,144 kilometres. The total estimated cost for these projects is GHS50 billion,” he said.
President Mahama further revealed that the government is completing 23 road projects initiated under the previous administration, but underfunded. These projects cover 573 kilometres and are estimated at GHS 15 billion.
“Across all 16 regions, 73 projects are advancing, with significant, visible progress expected by year-end,” he added.
The President said the Big Push initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure nationwide and stimulating economic growth through job creation and enhanced connectivity.
