Abuakwa South MP invests nearly GH¢1 Million in education support for 418 Tertiary Students

A total of 418 tertiary students from across the Abuakwa South Constituency in the Eastern Region have received financial support amounting to nearly GH¢1 million from the Member of Parliament for the area, Kingsley Agyemang.

The beneficiaries, drawn from all 24 electoral areas and 118 polling stations within the constituency, received assistance to support their academic pursuits for the 2025/2026 academic year.

In total, the MP disbursed GH¢808,939.13 to address the financial needs of the students, who are currently enrolled in 74 tertiary institutions across the country. The support package covers tuition payments and other academic-related expenses aimed at easing the financial burden on the students and their families.

Details of the intervention were disclosed by executives of the New Patriotic Party in the Abuakwa South Constituency during a press conference held in Kyebi on Thursday, March 12, 2026.

Addressing the media, the Dean of Electoral Area Coordinators, Samuel Bekoe, said the initiative forms part of the MP’s broader commitment to expanding access to higher education for young people in the constituency.

According to him, the intervention is intended to ensure that financially challenged students are not denied the opportunity to pursue tertiary education due to economic constraints.

Speaking in an interview, Dr. Agyemang explained that the decision to support students is rooted in his strong belief in education as a key driver of development and social mobility.

“A society can only be transformed economically and socially if its people are well educated. I am an MP today because I had access to education,” he said.

He added that investing in the education of young people remains one of the most meaningful contributions leaders can make toward the long-term development of their communities.

“I believe investing in the education of my constituents is the best gift I can give them. These students will not only be intellectually empowered but also economically equipped to drive the development of this constituency,” he stated.

Some beneficiaries of the programme expressed gratitude to the MP, describing the financial support as timely and helpful in enabling them to continue their studies without undue financial pressure.
