Blue Water Guard Officer Drowns in Anti-Galamsey Operation

A Blue Water Guard officer, Adams Abubakar, 35, has drowned in a river at Akyem Amenam in the Birim North District during an operation to combat illegal mining activities.

The incident occurred while Abubakar and his team confronted suspected galamsey operators on Thursday.
His body has been retrieved and deposited at the Abirem Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The officer was part of a team conducting an operation against illegal mining when he fell into the river,” Francis Lartsu, spokesperson for the Blue Water Guard, told newsmen .
The death highlights the risks faced by personnel fighting against galamsey as authorities intensify efforts to clamp down on these activities
