Kumasi: Police arrest 19 suspected drug peddlers at notorious Thinker Island
The IGP Special Operations Team has arrested 19 suspects, including a shop owner, in a crackdown on drug peddling and substance abuse in Kumasi’s Alaba and Thinker areas.
The operation, led by DSP Bawah Abdul Jalil and ASP Samuel Mustapha Abenzuo, retrieved quantities of suspected Indian hemp, heroin, cocaine, and opioids.
“We’re committed to combating crime and dismantling criminal networks across the Ashanti Region,” said DSP Bawah Abdul Jalil.
“The success of this operation highlights the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing.”
The suspects are in detention pending further investigation and possible prosecution.
The seized exhibits according to police are undergoing forensic analysis.
The operation was part of efforts to address crimes like robbery, rape, and violent attacks in the Kumasi metropolis.
The IGP Special Operations Team assures the public of its commitment to maintaining law and order, promoting safety, and restoring public confidence in security services.
