Kumasi: Two shot while attempting to rob appeals court judge

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has foiled a robbery attack at the residence of a Court of Appeal Judge in Kumasi, thanks to the alertness and bravery of a police bodyguard.

The incident occurred on March 3, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m., when two suspects, Patrick Alor, 23, and Akwasi Gyamfi, 21, attempted to break into the Judge’s residence.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command in a press release signed by DSP Godwin Ahianyo, copied to OTEC news desk on Wednesday said the suspects are in police care and will  assist investigations.

The suspects, who were armed with cutlasses and a pair of scissors, were spotted by the bodyguard on duty as they tried to forcibly open the Judge’s private vehicle.

In an attempt to disarm the officer, the suspects were met with resistance, and the bodyguard discharged his firearm in self-defense, injuring both suspects.

The injured suspects are currently receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi under police guard. The Police Command has commended the bodyguard for his vigilance, professionalism, and bravery, which prevented a potentially serious incident.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command assures the public of its commitment to protecting members of the judiciary and all citizens.

The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
