The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has formally petitioned the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) to release detailed information on procurement processes related to 20 projects under the government’s flagship “Big Push” initiative.
In a request made under the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), the lawmaker is seeking access to official records, particularly minutes from PPA Board meetings where sole-sourcing contracts for the projects were approved.
According to the MP, the move is aimed at promoting transparency and ensuring accountability in the award of public contracts.
“This request is made in the public interest, to promote transparency, accountability, and value for money in the public procurement processes,” he stated.
The request specifically targets procurement activities undertaken as part of the government’s infrastructure drive, with a focus on sole-sourced contracts that require strict oversight under procurement laws.
Mr. Awuah expressed confidence that the Public Procurement Authority would respond within the timeframe stipulated by the law.
“I would be grateful if this information could be provided within the statutory timeframe prescribed under the Act,” he noted, adding that he remains available to provide any necessary clarification to facilitate the process.
The Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), guarantees citizens access to information held by public institutions, a key mechanism in strengthening democratic governance and curbing corruption.
The development is expected to heighten scrutiny over the implementation of the “Big Push” initiative, as stakeholders continue to call for openness in the management of public resources.
