The Manso Aboaboso CHPS Compound in Amansie South District, Ashanti Region, is operating with only one health worker, leaving about 5,000 residents exposed to serious health risks.
Residents say poor infrastructure and lack of mobile network connectivity have discouraged many government workers from accepting postings to the area.
As a result, the entire facility is managed by a single health professional who attends to more than 20 patients daily.
A visit by OTEC News on Wednesday revealed that Prince Bonzey serves as OPD officer, clinician, and midwife at the compound.
“I was working here with another nurse who is currently on maternity leave, and I don’t think she will return because the network challenge in this community is unbearable and making the work very difficult,” Mr. Bonzey told OTEC News.
He said the lack of network connectivity has made emergency healthcare delivery extremely difficult, as workers cannot call for ambulance services during critical situations.
“Providing healthcare to residents here is very challenging. Authorities must urgently intervene to address the situation,” he appealed.
Patients also expressed frustration over long queues and delays at the facility.
“Sometimes you come here and spend hours without seeing the health worker because he is overwhelmed. At times, people even return home without treatment. It is very worrying. Are we not Ghanaians too?” a resident asked.
Residents are calling on government and relevant authorities to improve mobile network connectivity and deploy additional health workers to ease pressure on the only staff at the facility.
Community members say the situation is worsening daily and needs urgent attention.
