2025 GDP expected to grow by 4.4% – Ato Forson

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is projected to rise to 4.4 percent by the end of 2025.
Additionally, he disclosed that the non-oil GDP is expected to grow at an even higher rate of 5.3 percent, signaling the government’s commitment to economic expansion and diversification.
“Mr. Speaker, in pursuit of the overarching macroeconomic objectives, the following macroeconomic targets have been set for the 2025 fiscal year: Overall Real GDP growth of at least 4.4 percent; Non-Oil Real GDP growth of at least 5.3 percent,” Dr. Forson stated.
The projected GDP growth is seen as a crucial indicator of Ghana’s economic recovery following years of challenges, including the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, inflationary pressures, and external debt burdens.
The government’s forecast suggests a steady economic rebound, driven by improved productivity in key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and services.
Ghana’s economy has experienced fluctuations in recent years due to both domestic and global economic challenges.
In 2023, the GDP growth rate stood at approximately 3.2 percent, reflecting the effects of fiscal constraints and global economic slowdowns.
However, by 2024, the economy began showing signs of improvement, with real GDP growth estimated at 3.8 percent.
The expected 4.4 percent growth in 2025 is based on several macroeconomic strategies, including fiscal discipline, enhanced revenue collection, and investment in priority sectors.
