Miracle Rescue: GNFS saves day-old baby dumped in public latrine at Obuasi

In a dramatic and heart-stopping rescue, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Obuasi Fire Station has saved the life of a day-old baby boy who was abandoned in a public latrine at Kwameduakrom, Obuasi East District of the Ashanti Region.

The distress call was received on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 10:30 PM, and the GNFS crew sprang into action.

Led by Station Officer II Appiah Kubi, the crew arrived at the scene promptly and bravely descended into the latrine using an extension ladder to rescue the newborn.

Speaking to OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng the Ashanti Regional Public Relations Officer for for GNFS DO2 Peter Addai said the baby was successfully rescued alive at 11:31 PM, and the crew’s swift response and professionalism undoubtedly saved the child’s life.

The rescued baby was immediately rushed to the AngloGold Ashanti Hospital (A.G.A.) for medical attention.

The GNFS crew’s selfless act has been widely praised, with many commending their bravery and commitment to saving lives.

He noted that the Obuasi Fire Station’s heroic rescue highlights the importance of timely emergency response and the need for communities to support their local fire services.

The GNFS has once again demonstrated its dedication to protecting lives and property, and this remarkable rescue will undoubtedly be remembered for a long time.
