Denkyirahemaa mourns victims of helicopter crash

The Denkyirahemaa, Nana Ama Ayensua Saara III, has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of eight gallant Ghanaians who died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

In a heartfelt condolence message issued on behalf of the people of Denkyiraman and herself, the Queen Mother described the incident as an unprecedented and heartbreaking moment for the nation. The victims, including cabinet ministers, were travelling aboard a Ghana Air Force helicopter from Accra to Obuasi on national assignment when the aircraft crashed.

Among the deceased was her “beloved son,” Hon. Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, whom she said fondly called her “MOM.” She described him as a fine gentleman—respectful, humble, and dedicated to the service of Ghana.

“His passing, together with that of the seven others, has left the nation bereft of some of its finest and most brilliant minds,” Nana Ama Ayensua Saara III lamented.

The Denkyirahemaa noted that Ghana had lost hardworking, dedicated, and intelligent citizens whose contributions to national development were invaluable. She, together with Nananom and the people of Denkyiraman, joined the rest of the country in mourning.

Special condolences, she said, go to the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama; the bereaved families; the National Democratic Congress (NDC); the Ghana Armed Forces; and the entire nation.

She prayed for the Almighty God to grant the departed eternal rest and comfort the country in this period of grief.

MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCES FROM DENKYIRAHEMAA, NANA AMA AYENSUA SAARA III

I extend, with a heavy heart, this message of condolence on behalf of Denkyiraman and on my own behalf to mourn the loss of the eight (8) gallant men who perished in the line of duty for Mother Ghana in the tragic helicopter crash of Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

On that Black Wednesday, Ghana awoke to the unprecedented and heartbreaking news that eight brave men, including cabinet ministers, travelling on a Ghana Air Force helicopter from Accra to Obuasi on national assignment, had lost their lives when their aircraft crashed. Among them was my own beloved son, Hon. Omane Boamah.

Personally, I have been deeply devastated by this loss. Hon. Omane Boamah recognised me as his mother and fondly called me “MOM.” He was a fine gentleman by all standards—respectful, humble, and committed to the service of our nation. His passing, together with that of the seven others, has left the nation bereft of some of its finest and most brilliant minds.

Indeed, Ghana has lost hardworking, dedicated, and intelligent citizens whose contributions to our national development were invaluable. Myself, Nananom, and the entire Denkyiraman join the nation in deep mourning.

Our special condolences go to the President of the Republic, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama; the bereaved families; the National Democratic Congress (NDC); the Ghana Armed Forces; and indeed the entire country for this colossal loss.

It is our prayer that the Almighty God will grant our departed compatriots eternal rest and console our dear nation in this moment of profound grief.

Signed:

NANA AMA AYENSUA SAARA III
