The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Professor Ernest Kofi Davis, has lauded the invaluable role of teachers in national development, describing them as the cornerstone of quality education and the engine behind Ghana’s socio-economic progress.
Speaking at the 2025 Ghana Teacher Prize Awards Ceremony held at the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ho in the Volta Region on Sunday October 5, 2025, Prof. Davis emphasized the transformative power of educators in shaping the future of the nation.
The event was held under the theme: “Elevating the Status of Teachers for Quality Education.”
“There’s no doubt that teachers are the key drivers of quality education and the backbone of Ghana’s socio-economic development,” he stated. “They do not only deliver curriculum content, but also shape character, nurture creativity, instil discipline, and unlock the potential of our learners.”
Prof. Davis highlighted the foundational role teachers have played in the lives of all citizens, noting: “If I am here performing the function I have been tasked to perform, it is because I was taught by a teacher.
No one can talk about a responsible citizen contributing effectively to the country today without referencing a teacher.”
He called for continuous national recognition and support for educators, reminding stakeholders that the development of human capital begins in the classroom — led by dedicated and passionate teachers.
