NPP UK clarifies- Gabby did not say Ashanti MPs preferred community roads to flyovers

The New Patriotic Party’s UK branch has come out in defense of Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent member of the party, following controversy over comments he made at an NPP UK event in Birmingham.

Otchere-Darko allegedly discussed the challenges faced by the government in prioritizing projects due to economic constraints, citing an example where a lawmaker suggested focusing on community roads over flyovers.

Clarification on the Controversial Comments

The NPP-UK in a press release on Monday October 6,2025 copied to OTEC News Desk, stated that Otchere-Darko’s comments were taken out of context, with a flyer circulating on social media falsely quoting him as saying, “Ashanti MPs failed their people.”

The party emphasized that Otchere-Darko was highlighting the difficult trade-offs the government faced due to limited revenue and borrowing options.

“His reference was made within the context of Ghana’s severe economic challenges at the time, when several projects being financed through external loans had to be suspended,” the party explained.

“In his remarks, Otchere-Darko emphasized the need for humility and introspection within the party, stating, “Politics is a competitive and comparative game.”The release added.

NPP’s Confidence in Otchere-Darko

The NPP-UK expressed gratitude to Otchere-Darko for his address, which inspired reflection, unity, and renewed commitment to the party’s cause.

“His message was one of motivation, renewal, and belief in the NPP’s historic mission,” the party stated.

Appreciation to Party Leadership

The NPP-UK also commended the party’s parliamentary leadership and the Ashanti Parliamentary Caucus for their dedication to the party’s growth.

“With such leadership, we are confident that the NPP will rise stronger and secure victory in 2028,”they said.
