Kumasi: Auto dealers praise 2026 budget tax reforms, cite reduced prices and business relief

Auto dealers in the Ashanti Region have heaped praise on the government for the tax reforms outlined in the 2026 Budget, describing the measures as timely and economically refreshing for the automobile industry.

The Garage Owner of Automobile Dealers at Bekwai Roundabout in the Kumasi Metropolis, Nana Kyei Baffour, lauded the government for easing the financial pressure on their operations through the reforms presented by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

Speaking to the OTEC News  in an interview  on Monday, November 17, 2025, Nana Baffour — who also serves as Kunsu Gyaasehene in the Ahafo Ano South East District — revealed that the prices of vehicles have dropped significantly as a result of the cedi’s improved stability.

“A car that used to sell for GH¢170,000 now goes for GH¢130,000. This reduction is mainly because the cedi is stable, and the tax measures introduced are easing our burden,” he noted.

Despite the positive developments, he appealed for improved liquidity in the economy to boost sales.

“I’m calling for more cash flow in the system because sales are still low despite the stable cedi. We need buyers to have money so we can stay in business,” he explained.

A fellow dealer, Kwaku Frimpong, popularly known as Tupac, also highlighted the tangible benefits the reforms offer to auto importers and traders.

“The predictability of the new policies and the reduced duties will help importers, especially car dealers, to plan better and lessen operational pressure,” he said.

While commending government for listening to stakeholders, he stressed the need for additional adjustments.

“This is a sign that government hears us, but there must also be reductions in other key levies to make the sector even more sustainable,” he added.
