Suame interchange: Residents and artisans block main road to demonstrate over excessively dusty roads with deep potholes

Residents and artisans have blocked roads at Suame magazine to protest the excessive dust and poor condition of roads due to delayed construction of the Suame overhead
The demonstrators, including drivers and workers, expressed frustration over years of neglect, pointing to recently milled asphalt leaving only dust and calling for immediate road repairs.
The protesters, due to their huge number, caused traffic disruption on the Suame-Maakro stretch, leaving an uncomfortable number of commuters strangers
Speaking to OTEC News reporters who visited the seen, some of the protesters highlighted the health hazards and general disappointment with the state of the roads linked to the area
The protesters stated the roads have been in a deplorable state for years, citing a lackadaisical approach by contractor, which they believe have left the road worse and more dusty.
They demanded that the government immediately deploy contractors to fix the roads.
The residents said they would block the road every two days until it was fixed or watered daily
The Suame Interchange project, which was in fulfilment of a pledge former President Akuffo Addo made during a tour of the Ashanti Region during his time of office in 2022.
It consist of a four-tier interchange at the current Suame Roundabout, with overpasses at the Abrepo, Krofrom, Anomangye, Magazine New Road and Abusuakruwa junctions.
It is the first four-tier interchange in the Ashanti Region and the second in the country, after the Pokuase Interchange in the Greater Accra Region.
