Salaga South MP empowers apprentices with tools to boost skills and employment

The Member of Parliament for Salaga South, Hon. Ibrahimah Mohammed Zuwera, has presented vocational tools and equipment to dressmaking and hairdressing apprentices in the constituency to enhance skills development and promote employment opportunities.
The initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen local enterprise and reduce unemployment among the youth.
The items distributed included hair dryers, rollers, combs, hairpins, sewing machines, sewing materials, scissors, and other essential tools to support the beneficiaries throughout their four-year vocational training.
The presentation ceremony was held on Monday, February 16, 2026, and attracted apprentices, masters, and community members.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Ibrahimah Mohammed Zuwera said the gesture fulfilled the commitment of President John Mahama to invest in human capacity development across the country.
She stressed that empowering young people with practical skills remained a critical pathway to economic growth and self-reliance.
Addressing the apprentices directly, Hon. Ibrahimah Zuwera encouraged them to take their training seriously and remain committed until completion.
She noted that many young people were eager to complete their apprenticeship within three to four years and quickly establish their own businesses, adding that discipline and dedication would be key to their success.
According to Hon. Ibrahimah Zuwera, once masters officially pass out their apprentices, they should aim to become highly skilled professionals within a short period.
“When you finish your training successfully, I should not have to travel to Accra to sew my clothes. Salaga South must have competent and professional seamstresses right here,” she stated, drawing applause from the gathering.
Hon. Ibrahimah Zuwera further urged residents to prioritize local businesses, explaining that supporting artisans within the constituency would strengthen the local economy and make it easier to access skilled services.
She announced that a second batch of tools and equipment would soon be delivered to expand the initiative.
She also proposed the introduction of an award scheme to recognize outstanding masters who provide quality training to apprentices.
The MP explained that rewarding excellence would encourage professionalism and ensure that masters become widely recommended and respected within the community.
The apprentices expressed gratitude for the support, describing the items as timely and life-changing.
One beneficiary said, “This support has motivated us to work harder and prove that Salaga South has talent.”
They assured the MP that they would make good use of the equipment and dedicate themselves fully to mastering their chosen vocations.
