Freddie Blay to challenge remand order at Koforidua High Court

The legal team representing former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has announced plans to challenge a decision by the Akropong Circuit Court that resulted in his remand in police custody over a land dispute at Kitase.

According to his lawyers, an appeal will be filed today, March 17, at the Koforidua High Court in a bid to overturn the remand order and secure his release while the matter continues to be addressed through the legal process.

Freddie Blay was remanded on Monday, March 16, after he appeared before the Akropong Circuit Court in connection with a dispute involving a parcel of land located at Kitase in the Eastern Region.

The case is said to have arisen after the individual claiming ownership of the land lodged a complaint with the police, alleging unlawful activity on the property.

Following the complaint, police invited Mr. Blay to assist with investigations. However, the situation escalated, resulting in his arrest and subsequent appearance before the court.

After hearing preliminary details of the case, the court ordered that he be remanded while investigations continue.

His lawyer, Gregory Asiedu, described the development as unfortunate and indicated that the legal team believes the decision to remand their client was not justified under the circumstances.

According to him, they are confident that a higher court will review the matter and grant appropriate relief.

Speaking after the court proceedings, Asiedu said the legal team had already begun preparations to challenge the ruling.

“The appeal will be filed at the High Court in Koforidua,” he stated, explaining that they intend to seek a review of the remand order and request bail for their client.
