KMA Security Task Force Arrests Four Over Illicit Drug Trade in Kumasi

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), through its Internal Security Task Force, has arrested four individuals for allegedly engaging in the sale of illicit drugs at a sanitation area behind the Ashtown Post Office in Kumasi.

The operation, which took place on Monday, March 16, 2026, forms part of the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on criminal activities within the metropolis.

The identities of the suspects have been withheld, and they have since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service at the Kumasi Central Police Station for further investigations.

Items retrieved during the exercise include substances suspected to be Indian hemp, a locally manufactured pistol, packs of cigarettes, hard drugs, boxes of “Mashallah” (Ataya), cash, and other materials believed to be harmful.

Reaffirming its commitment to public safety, the Assembly stressed its resolve to sustain such operations. “KMA remains dedicated to maintaining law, order, and a safe environment for all residents,” the Assembly stated.

It further called on the public to support security efforts by volunteering information. “We urge residents to report suspicious activities and cooperate with authorities to help keep Kumasi safe,” the statement added.
