CPP applauds Mahama over UN Reparations Bill, calls it ‘historic justice for Africans’

The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has congratulated John Dramani Mahama following what it describes as the landmark passage of a Reparations Bill by the United Nations, aimed at addressing historical injustices against people of African descent.
In a statement signed by its National Communications Director, Osei Kofi Acquah, the party described the development as “a bold and courageous step” that brings global attention to the inhumane treatment endured by Africans during the transatlantic slave trade and beyond.
“This is not only the greatest and most important action taken by an African leader in pursuit of justice for Africans in the past, present and future, but also a courageous one,” the statement noted.
The CPP emphasized that the move aligns strongly with the ideological foundations of the party, rooted in the philosophy of Kwame Nkrumah, particularly the principles of Pan-Africanism and social justice.
On Pan-Africanism, the party said the development reinforces its long-standing commitment to “locate, unite and seek the well-being of every Black person across the world.” It added that the initiative by Mr. Mahama has contributed to global recognition that injustices committed against people of African descent—from slavery to apartheid and ongoing racial discrimination—remain unacceptable.
“The actions of President John Dramani Mahama have led to the recognition and acceptance by the United Nations that crimes committed against the Black race were and are still unacceptable,” the statement stressed.
Touching on social justice, the CPP noted that the passage of the bill signifies a long-overdue acknowledgment of the suffering of Africans who were “treated like commodities, forced into labour under inhumane conditions, and denied dignity and compensation.”
“For so long, the world refused to recognize that the abuse of Black people, whether state-sponsored or individual, is unacceptable. With this development, we believe justice has finally been sought for our forefathers,” the party stated.
The CPP further pledged its full support to the initiative and commended Mr. Mahama for what it called fulfilling “the age-old desire of our ancestors to be heard.”
“To President John Dramani Mahama, we say the CPP salutes you for your extraordinary courage in letting the world know that Black lives matter. You have set a priceless historical record and lit the path for Africans everywhere to stand boldly against injustice and racism,” the statement added.
The party concluded by hailing the former President as a “Black Star” whose actions will inspire generations in the global fight for equality and justice.
