GoldBod joins national sanitation exercise to clean Makola environs

Management and staff of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), led by Deputy Chief Executive Officer Richard Nunekpeku, Esq., have participated in the nationwide sanitation exercise launched by President John Dramani Mahama in response to the devastating floods that hit parts of the country on June 29.

The exercise saw the GoldBod team undertake a comprehensive clean-up of the GoldBod Headquarters and its surrounding areas, including the Ghana Library Authority, SIC Mall, and sections of the Makola Market enclave.

The initiative forms part of the government’s renewed efforts to improve environmental sanitation, reduce flood risks, and promote healthier communities across the country.

Speaking during the exercise, Mr. Nunekpeku said the institution was proud to support the President’s sanitation campaign, stressing that maintaining a clean environment is a shared responsibility.

“GoldBod is committed to supporting national initiatives that promote environmental cleanliness, public health, and sustainable development. Today’s exercise demonstrates our dedication to building a cleaner and healthier Ghana,” he said.

He urged businesses, institutions, and members of the public to actively participate in sanitation activities, noting that regular clean-up exercises are essential in preventing flooding and safeguarding public health.

“Environmental sanitation is not the responsibility of government alone. Every Ghanaian has a role to play in keeping our communities clean and preventing disasters caused by poor waste management,” he added.

The clean-up exercise covered key public spaces around the GoldBod Headquarters, with staff removing refuse, desilting drains, and clearing debris in areas heavily affected by the recent floods.
GoldBod said its participation underscores the institution’s commitment to environmental stewardship, public health, and national development, while reaffirming its support for the government’s Clean Ghana agenda aimed at creating safer and healthier communities.
