You don’t need permission to record police officers on duty – Ashanti Regional MTTD commander clarifies

The Ashanti Regional MTTD Commander, Superintendent Kwame Boadi, has clarified that civilians do not need permission from police officers to record them while performing their official duties, provided the officers are acting lawfully.

Speaking in an interview with OTEC FMs Maame Akua Asarebea on August 26, 2026, Superintendent Boadi urged drivers and members of the public to document and report any MTTD officers who engage in misconduct, including allegedly extorting money from motorists.

He encouraged the public to provide credible video or other evidence of such misconduct to the police for the appropriate action to be taken against the officers involved.

According to him, evidence from the public can assist the police in identifying and dealing with officers who breach professional standards.

Superintendent Boadi stressed that an officer who is conducting himself or herself properly should have no reason to be afraid of being recorded.

 He therefore encouraged civilians to cooperate with the police while ensuring that any allegations of misconduct are supported with evidence for proper investigation.
