Breast cancer awareness: Breast sucking sparks mixed reactions among Kumasi residents

Breast sucking and the feelings associated with the act have sparked mixed reactions among residents in Kumasi as the world marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

The residents shared their views with OTEC News reporters Ama Nyame, Grace Afra and Mariam Hussanie on Friday, October 9, 2026, discussing the pleasure, emotional connection and personal experiences associated with breast stimulation during intimate moments.

Some of the men interviewed said sucking their partners’ breasts enhances sexual pleasure and makes their intimate experiences more enjoyable.

According to them, the act helps strengthen intimacy between partners, with some indicating that it heightens their sexual excitement and makes it easier for them to reach orgasm.

“Breast sucking makes the experience more enjoyable for me. It increases the pleasure and helps create a stronger connection between my partner and me,” one of the men said.

Another respondent explained that the act sometimes helps him reach sexual orgasm more quickly, describing it as an important part of intimacy with his partner.

However, not all the men shared the same experience. Some said they did not derive any particular physical sensation from breast sucking but engaged in the act to satisfy their partners and make them feel loved.

“I don’t get any special feeling from it, but if it makes my partner happy and satisfied, I am willing to do it,” another respondent noted.

Women share their experiences

The women interviewed also expressed varying opinions, with some describing breast stimulation as a source of pleasure, comfort and emotional connection during intimacy.

One woman explained that the actions of her partner sometimes helped improve her mood when she was not feeling well.

She added that breast stimulation during sex could help draw her attention to the moment, particularly when her mind was distracted or she was not fully focused on the experience.

Other women said their breasts were highly sensitive, making touching, pressing and sucking pleasurable experiences during intimate encounters.

For them, the act goes beyond physical pleasure, as it can also contribute to emotional closeness and improve communication between partners.

Breast cancer prevention claims

Some of the women interviewed also expressed the belief that pressing and sucking the breasts could help prevent breast cancer.

However, health experts have not established breast sucking, pressing or massage as methods of preventing breast cancer. The claims should therefore not be treated as medically proven ways of reducing the risk of the disease.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed every October, seeks to increase public awareness of breast cancer, encourage early detection and promote access to appropriate medical care.

Health professionals generally encourage people to be familiar with the normal appearance and feel of their breasts and to seek medical attention when they notice unusual changes, including lumps, changes in breast shape or size, nipple changes or abnormal discharge.

Residents are also encouraged to seek reliable medical information on breast cancer prevention, screening and treatment rather than relying on unverified claims.

The discussions in Kumasi highlight the different personal experiences and beliefs surrounding breast stimulation, while underscoring the importance of separating individual opinions from established medical facts as the world continues to raise awareness of breast cancer.
