Director of Passports interdicted as Ministry probes $50,000 diplomatic passport sale allegations

The Director of Passports, Yahaya Amantana Mahama, has been interdicted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs amid allegations that Ghanaian diplomatic passports are being sold for $50,000.
Citi News sources at the Ministry say the interdiction is intended to facilitate investigations into the allegations and establish the circumstances surrounding the reported sale of the travel documents.
The allegations were brought to public attention by the Minority in Parliament, which claimed that diplomatic passports were being offered for sale at $50,000.
The Ministry has since commenced investigations to establish the veracity of the claims and determine whether any officials were involved in the alleged transactions.
The party wants the government to disclose the identities or official positions of all beneficiaries, the basis on which they qualified for the passports, and the authorities responsible for approving their issuance.
The NPP says the disclosure is necessary to promote transparency and accountability in the administration of diplomatic and service passports.
