Substandard raw materials collapsed shoe factory – Defence Minister
Deputy Minister of Defense, Hon. Major (Rtd) Dereck Oduro revealed that the use of substandard raw materials for production resulted in the near collapse of the Kumasi Shoes Factory.
“Bad or inferior raw materials are bought for production to produce boots under bad weather conditions that is why no body is coming to order”, he observed.
“The factory has been set up with the necessary equipment but getting quality raw materials to produce quality boots and other leather products is the problem now”, the Nkronza North lawmaker explained.
The Deputy Minister for Defence, expressed disgust over the progress of the factory and was shocked to find out that the factory has only 49 workers during a tour to the Kumasi Shoe factory
It was anticipated that over 300 workers are employed, Hon. Major (Rtd) Derek Oduro told the press.
He said, government will revamp the factory to certain standard where quality raw materials will be imported for production.
