NDC demands disclosure on alleged 300,000 extra votes in Ashanti Region

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has continued its dispute of the electoral process claiming there are 300,000 extra votes in the Ashanti Region.

“On the declaration sheets from the various constituencies, we realised that the votes from the Ashanti Region had increased by over 300,000 votes,” NDC Deputy General Secretary, Peter Otokunor alleged.

“We have been demanding that the Electoral Commission rectify these figures. It has been very difficult and so far, it has proved futile,” he added.

The NDC maintains that “ballot stuffing became the order of the day during the voting exercise.”

He also said there were significant discrepancies in ballots cast in presidential and parliamentary ballots in some constituencies.

In provisional figures announced during the declaration of President Akufo-Addo’s re-election, he had 6,730,413 of the votes, representing 51.59 percent, while the flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama placed second, garnering 6,214,889 votes which represented 47.36 per cent of the ballots counted so far.

The only constituency outstanding is Techiman South.
