The grassroots supporters of the ruling NPP have explained rationale for the declaration for Vice President Dr Mahammudu Bawumia ahead of the 2024 presidential primary of the party.
According to the NPP Grassroots Supporters, “He (Dr Mahammudu Bawumia and his team) respected us, called on us and showed us that he is ready to work with us. This is one of the reasons why we Grassroots Supporters in the Ashanti region are ready to back Dr Mahammudu Bawumia,” they said.
Speaking to newsmen in an interview at the NPP Annual National Delegates Conference in Kumasi on Sunday December 19, 2021, they explained that the decision of the Grassroots Supporters was premised on the fact that Vice President Dr Mahammudu Bawumia is the only presidential aspirant who has, over time, expressed his desire to work with them.
Grassroots Supporters in the Ashanti region also called on the party’s rank and file to unite behind whoever is elected presidential candidate of the NPP, because “there must be unity if we are to consolidate power in 2024 to break the 8 year jinx.”
According to the group, “Dr Bawumia has done a great job for the government and the party especially in the 2016 and 2020 elections” pointing out that he (Dr Bawumia) has increased votes from northern Ghana for the party.
They maintained that, the Dr Bawumia had the vision, capacity and good programmes to manage the economy to provide better standards of living for every Ghanaian, hence the need for every member to support his candidature and work towards breaking the ‘8’.
