IGP warns against attacks on police stations

The Inspector General of Police, David Asante Apeatu, has warned against vandalism and acts of attacks on police properties, saying persons caught in that would be made to face the full rigours of the law.
The warning comes on the back of Monday’s attack on the Somanya Police station by some angry youth who set ablaze one police patrol vehicle. Commenting on the issue, the IGP said such acts of lawlessness will not be condoned by the police, stating that “…any person who will attack or support the attack of any police facility will be made to face the fill rigours of the law.
At the commissioning of a police station at Ahwiaa in the Bekwai municipality of Ashanti region, entreated the public to join hands in curbing lawlessness, as he condemned what he referred to as reckless attacks on police stations in the country.
“We have in recent time witness reckless attacks on some police stations. Attacking the police station is synonymous to inflicting pain on ourselves,” he said.
He also warned police personnel who act unprofessionally would be dealt with in accordance with the police service regulations.
“Let me sound a strong warning to men and women in police service who will misconduct themselves in any way that the administration will deal sternly with them in accordance with the provision of the police service regulations 2012 C.I 76,” Mr Apeatu warned.

The newly established police station is targeted at reducing the increasing rate of armed robbery on the Anwiankwanta-Obuasi road. Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ken Yeboah, stressed on the importance of increasing police presence in every community and called for public support to fight crime.
Sole sponsor of the Ahwiaa police station, Derek Danso Afriyie, says individual and corporate assistance in infrastructural development will make the work of the police more efficient.
He said it is time the country started thinking of establishing one police station in each village to enhance security.
Mr Danso Afriyie also funded the establishment of a health centre to bring healthcare delivery to the doorstep of residents of Ahwiaa and adjoining communities.
