44 Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) In Afigya Kwabre South Receive Livelihood Assistance

The Afigya Kwabre South District Assembly as part of its efforts in bringing governance to the people has organised a 5-day programme for the inauguration of Area Councils and Town hall meetings in the five (5) separate Area councils.
The theme for the programme was “Strengthening Local Government Sub – Structures and Showcasing Government Development Projects in Afigya Kwabre South District”.
The Assembly also identified forty-four (44) Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) in the five (5) Area Councils and supported them with Start-up Capital.
Others got support for the payment of their medical and educational bills.
The Assembly furthermore provided assistance to some of them to procure bags of charcoal, hair dryers and accessories, shoe maker’s leather machine, deep freezers and a television signal detecting machine.
In all, close to GHc62,000 was spent by the Assembly on these income generating, medical and education bursaries for the 44 beneficiaries.
District Chief Executive:l (DCE):
Speaking at the various area council centres, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Adu Poku Christian admonished beneficiaries to step up beyond their disabilities and use their God given skills and intellect to make a meaningful life for themselves.
He said rather than being a burden to society they could become useful to their families with the trade or skills they learn.
Hon Adu Poku expressed the commitment of the District Assembly to offer support to PWDs who are determined to doing something for themselves.
“I urge beneficiaries to put into good use the support the government has offered to them because it is aimed at improving their lives”, the DCE stressed.
Head of Department:
Mr Cheslyn Nutsugah, the District Director of Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, assured beneficiaries of the district’s support.
He noted that their requests will be attended to anytime allocations from the common fund are made available.
He however cautioned beneficiaries not to sell the items that have been given to them.
“PWDs who are identified after a monitoring exercise and would be found to have sold the support items or redirecting funds for a different purpose will be blacklisted from accessing future support from the fund”, Mr Nutsugah stated firmly.
