World press Freedom day: OTEC School of Journalism students optimistic of Journalists in Ghana

Some students of OTEC School of Journalism and Communication Studies at Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have optimism of Journalists in Ghana.

The students who are being trained to become journalists say they believe in the abilities of the incumbent and successive governments to protecting media Practitioners in the country.

The students on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day shared their expectations with OTEC News Jacob Agyenim Boateng

“Yes there are cases of attacks against journalists in the country with some of them unresolved by police but  I am possitive that, Ghana as a nation will do her best to protect journalists “

“We expect government to as much as possible,   do all it could to minimize attacks on journalists, if not eliminate such atrocities”. A level 100 student, Emmanuel Boateng said.

Another level 100 student, Erica Appiah said Ghanaians needed to know the indispensable role journalists play in the country and called on government to provide avenue for such educations.

As we speak now most of the public trust journalists more than other state, a clear indication that, the work of a media personnel in the development of Ghana cannot be taking for granted “. She said

World Press Freedom Day, is marked on May 3, every year. It is a special occasion designated by UNESCO to spread awareness regarding the role media plays in our daily lives and society.

The 2023 World Press Freedom Day in Ghana is being organized solely by the GJA, with assistance from the Ghana Police Service and ADB, following the advice of our long-term partner, UNESCO.

The global theme for World Press Freedom Day 2023 is “Shaping a Future of Rights: Freedom of Expression as a Driver for all other human rights.”

In Ghana, the day is being commemorated on the theme; “Freedom of Expression: A Driver for all human rights for Ghana’s Development.”
