Dumsor: Asantehene to petition President Nana Akufo

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has threatened to petition President Nana Akufo Addo if the Ghana Gas Company delays in providing gas to the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) to generate energy to supply power to the Ashanti region.

Asantehene said power outages currently being experienced in the region is causing inconveniences to his people; affecting businesses and destroying electrical appliances, a situation he bemoaned cannot be looked unconcerned.

The Ashanti monarch gave the threat when the Minister of Energy, Hon Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, led the Board Members of GRIDCo, ECG and VRA paid a visit to the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

The visit was to explain to the King of Ashanti the causes of the power outages in the region and efforts made to address the situation to bring lives to normalcy.

Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh said apart from the collapse of their three transmission towers, unavailability of gas to power their machines was another challenge facing the ministry.

This, the Asantehene in his responds, urged the Ghana Gas Company Limited to expedite actions to resolve the situation to enable the Ashanti region to enjoy stable electricity power.

“Tell the gas company to double up their works to produce the gas to GRIDCo to enable you power your machines for us to get stable power, and if they fail to do so, I will lead my grandchildren to the Jubilee House in Accra to tell the president about their work,” he said.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II complained of how the recent power outages have destroyed his electrical home appliances, and appealed to the Energy Ministry and its partners to do their best to resolve power crisis in the region.

The Asantehene also called on the Energy Ministry to ensure the Ameri power plant the ministry has promised to relocate to Kumasi is done on time to make the electricity power stable.
