Saudi man arrested for carrying four hundred snakes on plane
A Saudi Arabian man reportedly carried four hundred snakes in his hand luggage on an Etihad flight from Jakarta to Abu Dhabi on Monday.
According to a report in The National, the man was arrested by security officers when his plane landed in Abu Dhabi after showing the deadly reptiles to some of the passengers to their astonishment.
In addition to the snakes, the man reportedly transported twenty -two parrots and fifteen squirrels in his bag.
It is unclear how the man was able to clear security controls in Jakarta.
Andang Santoso, a spokesman for the airport operator in Jakarta, told the Jakarta Globe: “Every passenger has to go through two X-ray scanners, so I don’t think it’s possible for the animals to have passed them without anyone noticing.”
Irma Hermawati, an Indonesian animal rights advocate, suggested that airport employees in Jakarta may have assisted the man.
