I’ll fulfil my promises: Akufo-Addo tells Asantehene
President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has assured Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the entire country that he will not renege on all the campaign promises he made to Ghanaians ahead of the December 7 presidential and parliamentary elections.
He made the assurance when he paid a visit to the Manhyia Palace in the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, on Wednesday December 14.
While interacting with the Asantehene, Mr Akufo Addo asked for his blessings and the needed support to enable him honour all the promises he made to Ghanaians. This support, he said, would enable his government bring the needed development to the country.
“Before campaigning in the Ashanti Region, I came here to seek the blessing of the Asantehene. Exactly a week ago, Ghanaians voted, after which the NPP emerged victorious,” he said.
Mr Akufo-Addo was accompanied by Vice-president-elect Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Minority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kyerematen, NPP acting National Chairman Freddie Blay, National Women’s Organiser Otiko Afisah Djaba, acting General Secretary John Boadu and newly-elected and re-elected members of parliament.
There was heavy military and police presence at the Manhyia Palace during the visit as supporters of the NPP, numbering over 500, thronged the palace in party paraphernalia.
“I have, therefore, come here this afternoon after the NPP’s victory to once again seek your blessing as I lead the country. I have also come to assure you that I will fulfil all the promises I made to Ghanaians prior to the elections.”
He added: “The task ahead is huge and so I have come here to seek the blessing of the Asantehene to help me govern this country to the benefit of the entire nation.”
