Coach Michael Osei demands GHȼ110,000 payoff from Kotoko
In what comes as a completely new twist to the story of reassigned coach, Michael Osei, the former Kotoko Assistant Trainer has written to Management demanding a total of GHȼ 110,000 compensation from the club.
GHȼ40,000 of the figure Michael Osei is asking for represents the remainder of his GHȼ60,000 sign-on fee while GHȼ60,000 covers his salary for the 20 months left on his employment contract. For his rent allowance, the ex-Kotoko player and now a budding coach wants GHȼ10,000 also for the remaining 20 months on his contract.
It’s however instructive to note that, Management hasn’t sacked or dismissed the coach and observers have been questioning the basis for the coach’s demands. Management is yet to respond to these demands. Last week, Michael Osei was moved to the youth team to serve as the Technical Director as part of the club’s plans to re-organise the youth team.
In his response to Management’s decision, Michael Osei in a letter dated January 26, 2017, said he appreciated the chance offered him to help build a strong youth team. He was however unable to accept the opportunity given to him by the club because of circumstances that surrounded his continuous stay as at the club. The letter didn’t elaborate on those circumstances.
Apart from Management’s objective of restructuring of the Technical Team and the building of the Youth Team, the decision to reassign Michael Osei was premised on clause 3 (2) of the coach’s contract. Michael Osei indicated that, he had a different understanding of what the clause directing him to be the Technical Director of the Youth Team and as a result he couldn’t accept the offer. He’s therefore asking for a mutual termination of his relationship with Kotoko, arguing that, it would serve his interest and that of the club.
Management of the team has promised to respond appropriately in due course .
