Three hundred girls from Senior High Schools across the country are to benefit from free training in ICT and entrepreneurship.
The project dubbed “Girls Can Code” is to develop the interest of girls to take up careers in ICT by exposing them to basics in computer coding.
The project which will last for two years, will also train 20 teachers from 10 Junior High Schools.
The first Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, launched the project which also seeks to improve women`s livelihood and address the gender gap in IT.
She asked the girls to use the knowledge they will acquire wisely as there could be negative outcome if misused.
The project is an initiative by the Ghana Education Service, UNESCOIFAB,HACSA and the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence.
The objective is to make sure that girls have equal access to information and knowledge to have better employment opportunities in future.
This is seen as a major step to achieving the 2030 sustainable Development Goal four which seeks to eliminate gender disparities in education.
Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo called for more of such projects to empower women and girls for a better future.
The chairperson for the occasion and president of HACSA, Ambassador Johanna Odonkir Svanikier gave an overview of the project.
