We will use IT to promote and market tourism – Finance Minister
Ken Ofori Attah, Finance Minister has stated that government plans to use information technology to promote and market tourism via the single portal window.
Presenting the maiden budget of the Akufo-Addo government on the floor of parliament Thursday, the minister noted Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts as one of the most underdeveloped sectors in the Ghanaian economy despite it’s immense growth potential and opportunities for job creation.
According to him, the tourism sector when developed, can positively impact the lives of many individuals, families, communities and small enterprises in the country as well as provide the needed jobs for teeming Ghanaian youth.
”Our objective is to transform the country into a major Meeting, Incentive Conference and Exhibition center (MICE). To facilitate this we will aggressively develop our tourist sites to bring them to world class standards” he said.
He revealed that, Government will kick start the Marine Drive Tourism Investment Project which will cover the over 240 acres of land from Osu Christiansborg Castle to the Arts Center this year. This project is aimed at transforming the beach area into a tourism enclave to create jobs for the youth, he added.
Ken Ofori Attah disclosed that the Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Ministry will partner the private sector to develop the Efua Sutherland Park into an ultra-modern world class Park and also undertake a food festival to showcase the diverse rich Ghanaian foods through cooking competition throughout the country.
