Youth Cautioned Against Gulf State Trips

Ghanaina youth have been advised to in their own interest, carry out the necessary investigations before embarking on any trip to Gulf states where purported job opportunities are virtually non-existent.

His advice follows a revelation by the Ghana Immigration service of how about 2,000 Ghanaian women are stranded in some gulf states in search of greener pastures.

According to the report these women are taken by recruitment agencies into these countries in the Gulf state and are subjected to all forms of abuses instead of the jobs promised.

The Ashanti regional Director of passports, Paul Kwabena Nana Sei Osei gave the admonition when highlighting the performance of his outfit for the year 2016 in an interview with Otec fm.

He explained that the process of acquiring a fresh passport normally takes an applicant 5 weeks after picking a form for GHc50 whiles the express service attracts GHc100 and takes 3 weeks.
According to him, over 200,000 applicants were issued with passports nationwide out of which 70,000 were from the Ashanti region.
Mr Paul kwabena sei Osei revealed that there was an ascendancy in the demand and issuance of passports last year particularly among the youth whose ages range between 19 and 30 as compared to the previous years due to gulf state trips which mostly land them in deep problems.
He cautioned potential applicants to process their application through their offices and not through ”Goro boys” or any third party.
On the question of passports being used as a means of identification to transact business in the banks, the director noted it was improper because the passport is only meant for traveling purposes and therefore appealed to government to expedite action on the provision of the national identification cards as the ideal document for such transaction.
