Mahama stands with Muntari over racist row Sulley Muntari reacts to supporters during Pescara’s 1-0 defeat at Cagliari Ghana’s former president John Mahama has declared support for former Black Stars player, Sulley Muntari who walked out of a football match in Italy following racist chants against him.
Muntari was yellow carded for his several complaints to the referee over the racist comments against him. For walking away from the match, the Italian Football Authority, gave the player a one match ban indicating that he [Muntari] overreacted.
According to the football authority, a post match report indicated that only about 10 people were involved in the racist insults representing less than 1 percent of the spectators.
This caused massive uproar on social media known footballers and pundits showing solidarity to the Ghana international including Michael Essien, K.P Boateng amongst others.
Former President John Mahama in a tweet said “I stand with Sulley Muntari” #DontLookAway.
