Row at EC has Implications on National Cohesion – Rev Opuni Frimpong

General Secretary of the Christian Council of Ghana, Rev Dr. K. Opuni Frimpong has said that impeaching EC Chair charlotte Osei could have implications on our political landscape and national cohesion.

There is a petition before President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo filed by some workers of the Commission against EC boss, Charlotte Osei.

Allegations raised in the petition range from questions about her managerial competence, political neutrality and what the staff say are breaches of contracts and the public procurement act.

But Rev. Opuni believes that the Electoral Commission is the heart of all Ghanaians especially during election times and as such should not be entangled in disputes of this nature.

”The petition and legal battles are withing the rights of both parties but the question we need to ask ourselves is; what could happen in the next 4years duriing elections after Madam Charlotte Osei has been impeached?”

He however advised the commission to take advantage of the many knowledgeable and respected figures in the country and resort to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to find a ”win-win solution” to the contretemps instead of going to court.

”For the sake of the advancement of our democracy and peace , we should not rush into impeaching the EC Chair in the name of constitutional and legal rights but consider it’s implications”.
