NPP holds “gratitude rally” at Cape Coast
Hundreds of supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) descended on the Cape Coast Township turning the Municipality into a sea of red, blue and white, rendering it an atmosphere of a carnival.
The Victoria (Jubilee) Park, moments after the conclusion of the NPP’s National Delegates Conference at the University of Cape Coast, was a sight to behold as party faithful, delegates from across the country, supporters, and many others from all age groups, flooded the venue to participate in the humongous rally of the Elephant Party.
As the crowd steadily converged on the Jubilee Park, thousands spotting catchy party paraphenelia, with some embossed with the image of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, sang, trumpeted, cheered and danced to music blaring from professional public address systems mounted for the rally.
The rally, which crowned the Delegates Conference, was for the President and the leadership of the NPP to thank the people of the Central Region for the massive support they lent to the Party in the 2016 General Election that brought it to power.
The NPP increased its parliamentary seats in the Region from seven in 2012 to 19 in 2016 out of the 23 seats, giving the party an overwhelming majority in the polls.
The rally was attended by President Akufo-Addo and his wife, Rebecca, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and his wife, Samira, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, senior government officials, ministers of state, party chieftains and stalwarts and parliamentarians among other personalities.
President Akufo-Addo expressed appreciation to the people for their support that enabled the Party to win the 2016 Election.
He gave the assurance that he would fulfill every pledge he made to develop the Region, and indeed his government had started making good on its promise to bring jobs and prosperity to the people.
The President said Ghana had never been a poor country, but that the economic hardship that was witnessed in times past was as a result of awful leadership.
He expressed the hope that the various economic policies and interventions being put in place by his Administration would put Ghana on the path of success, development and economic prosperity to the benefit of all.
Former President Kufuor, on his part, urged the youth to have faith in the Akufo-Addo Administration to fix Ghana’s broken economy and generate the needed jobs for them.
He said every good government carried out painstaking planning before the execution of programmes to ensure their success and sustainability.
He urged the people not to pay heed to those who said government was slow on its promises adding that any genuine government would set the right foundation in terms of policies and programmes before any meaningful impact would be made.
