Member of parliament for North Tong Constitution in the Volta region, Hon. Okudzeto Ablakwa has described as unfair the criticisms against the NDC’s progressively free education program by some members of the New Patriotic Party.
”Let us tell Ghanaians that the condemnation of the NDC’s progressively free education by the NPP that they did not believe in it and would introduce a wholesale, universal free education policy immediately to benefit every SHS student was not fair on the NDC, so we need to admit that and move forward”, he stated.
According to him, the most important thing is to make sure quality is not compromised and also ensuring that quality at the secondary school level is maintained.
The former deputy Education Minister expressed concern about the approved Ghana Education Service fees which was for the first time not increased as done each academic year but remained static.
”Were they trying to beat down the cost of the free SHS policy so that they don’t have to spend the actual amount”, he asked.
He warned that holding the GES approved fees constant each academic year would compromise the quality of education and create difficulties for the various school heads in the country.
