Residents of the various communities in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti region are gearing up to stage a mammoth demonstration against the Asanko mining company which operates in the area.
The demonstration, according to organizers is scheduled to happen on Wednesday the 27th of September 2017.
Leader and organizer of the demonstration, Nana Abu Bonsra told Otec news that the Asanko minning company, a large scale mining firm has been operating in the area for more than 20 years without honoring their social responsibilities to the communities.
”This mining company has not taken any action to either improve the living conditions of our communities or to reduce the negative impacts of their activities on the entire Manso area despite the huge amount of money they are making from the minerals extracted from our lands,” he cried.
Nana Abu Bonsra revealed that the Asanko mining company has not been able to provide a single development project in any of the communities in which they operate including a common bore hole.
He disclosed that the necessary arrangements have been laid down for the massive demonstration next week Wednesday, to draw the attention of government and Ghanaians to the bad act of the firm and it’s treatment to natives of Manso and its environs.
Efforts to reach authorities of the Asanko minning company to get their side of the story have proven futile as they declined to comment on the allegations.
