UTAG to resume nationwide Strike on Monday

The National Executive Council of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has directed its members in all the universities across the country to continue the strike action it embarked upon on July 14th this year.

The action which is expected to take effect on Monday September 18th, was necessitated by the a court order instructing the substantive vice-chancellor of the university of Education, Winneba to step aside.

The association in a press release described the UEW issue as an attack on the academic freedom of all public universities in the country.

”NEC further directs that UTAG members in all the other public universities throughout the country should withdraw their teaching services beginning Monday, 18th September, 2017 in solidarity with UTAG-UEW,” the release said.

It has therefore given a one-week ultimatum for the current UEW impasse to be resolved, adding that, the decision to strike would be reviewed at an upcoming UTAG congress to be held on 22nd September considering the outcome of the resolution.
