Nsuta Court Jails Five Robbers 195 Years for Attacks on Fetish Priests

The Nsuta Circuit Court has sentenced five men to a combined 195 years imprisonment with hard labor for conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery in two separate cases.

The convicts are Kofi Adu alias K2, 33, an Uber driver and leader of the gang; Owusu Patrick alias Ike, 21, a farmer; Francis Obeng alias Amani, 22, a taxi driver; Karim Nurudeen alias Kusheshe, 21, a vulcanizer; and Akwasi Agyei alias Show Boy, 22, a taxi driver.

Two other accomplices, Edem and Okra, are currently at large.

Presiding Judge His Honour Mr. Simon Nketia Gagah handed down the sentences on April 30, 2026.

A press release by the Ashanti North Region Police Command indicated that, in the first case, Kofi Adu was sentenced to 25 years on both counts.

In the second case, he received 50 years on both counts. Owusu Patrick got 20 years on both counts in the first case and 40 years on both counts in the second.

Francis Obeng, Karim Nurudeen, and Akwasi Agyei were each sentenced to 20 years on both counts for their roles in the two cases.

The sentences are to run concurrently. Adu and Patrick received enhanced sentences because they are ex-convicts.

According to the Ashanti North Regional Police Command, the gang used deception and blackmail to target victims.

They posed as gold dealers or clients seeking spiritual help, claiming they had ancestral gold to extract.

Through this, they gained the trust of fetish priests, monitored them, then robbed them at gunpoint and machete point.

Between late 2025 and early 2026, the group carried out operations in Kumawu, Effiduase, Ejisu, Bonwire, and Yawnkrumakrom, extending to parts of the Eastern and Western Regions.

A Special Operations Team arrested the suspects between April 24 and 27, 2026, following coordinated operations at Ejisu Asotwe, Donaso, Bonwire, Owen, Nkwankwanua, and Akyenakrom.

The suspects admitted to the crimes during interrogation.

Cases Details:

In the first case, on December 28, 2025, the gang attacked Nana Serwaa, a 48-year-old fetish priestess at Baamang, Bonwire.

Kofi Adu entered her shrine under the pretext of looking for his sister. He then signaled accomplices who were lying in wait. Wearing masks and armed with a pistol and machetes, they assaulted her and her two grandsons, aged 13 and 5.

They stole GH₵7,600 cash and transferred GH₵1,200 from her mobile money account after forcing her to disclose her PIN.

In the second case, in October 2025, the gang planned their operations at a chop bar in Ejisu.

After being arrested and released due to lack of evidence, they regrouped. Owusu Patrick approached Nana Afia Konadu, a priestess at Dadease/Kumawu, pretending he had inherited gold and needed spiritual protection.

On December 31, 2025, the masked gang stormed her shrine with guns, machetes, and sticks. They assaulted victims, damaged property, and stole GH₵20,000 cash, five mobile phones, and a ceremonial fugu containing GH₵45,000.

Police retrieved several exhibits including a Toyota Matrix used for the robberies, registration plate GN 886-19, five cutlasses, a hammer, cutter, stick, phones, talismans, and the victim’s fugu.

The two suspects at large, Edem and Okra, are still being pursued by police.
