Ministry of Communications to celebrate National Cyber Security Week

The Ministry of Communications in collaboration with the National Cyber Security Secretariat under the distinguished patronage of the President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, are pleased to announce that National Cyber Security Week 2017will be taking place from 23rd – 27th October 2017.
The celebration, themed “Securing Ghana’s Digital Journey” will feature a programme of activities including thought leadership sessions, panel discussions, lectures, demonstrations, exhibitions and training sessions.
Minister of Communications, Honourable Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said” As we scale up our digitisation efforts and increasingly embrace technological advancements it is important that our cyber preparedness and security also improve. National Cyber Security Week offers an excellent opportunity for information sharing and engagement and is a key component in building an effective and robust cyber security ecosystem in Ghana.”
Mr Albert Antwi-Boasiako said” We are pleased to have established the National Cyber Security Secretariat within the Ministry of communications this year with a mandate to protect national systems, networks and data from cyber attacks. Our aim to bring together stakeholders from all walks of life to create awareness of cyber security and National Cyber Security Week is crucial to achieving this.”
The opening ceremony and inauguration will take place on Monday, 23rdOctober, and 2017 at 09:00am at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC). Cyber Security vendors and service providers will showcase their services as part of an exhibition, which will take place in the Conference Centre throughout the week and events will also take place at the Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT.
National Cyber Security Week is expected to contribute to information and knowledge sharing on cyber security best practices, from governance to basic cyber security tips and hygiene and is expected to bring cyber security stakeholders, both local and international, together towards securing Ghana’s digital journey. Key themes that will be covered during the week include Cyber Security Governance, Child Online Protection, Cyber Hygiene and Awareness, Cyber Security Solutions and Capacity Building.
Key participating stakeholders include the Ministry of Communications, the National Cyber Security Secretariat, the Ministry of National Security, Africa Union Commission, ECOWAS Secretariat, UNDP, Council of Europe (GLACY + Project), the United States Government (Security Governance Initiative), National Communications Authority, Data Protection Commission, Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications, ISACA Ghana, J Initiative and Innovare.
