Willing Ways Foundation Ghana fetes mentally derange patients and drug addicts
Willing Ways Foundation Ghana, an NGO set up for the welfare and treatment of drug, alcoholic addicts and mentally ill joined drug addicts and mentally retarded persons at Kokote in the Offinso municipality of the Ashanti region in celebrating the Christmas festivities, fed about 300 people with foods and drinks on Monday December 25, 2017.
Speaking in an interview with Otec news’ Evans Agyei Sikapa, the leader and founder of the Willing Ways Foundation Ghana, Madam Lydia Abena Manu said they used the Christmas time to reach out to those neglected in the society, especially drug addicts and mentally ill persons, to make them feel part of the society.
She said the part is also an opportunity to lure them to the foundation to control their addiction and bring them back to the society.
“It saddens me how the society has neglected these people, and it is time we make then know that they are also part of us. Through such activities, we are able to convince them to come to our rehab centre for treatment,” she said.
Madam Abena Manu called on government, corporate bodies and individuals to lend helping hands in treating the drug addicts and the mentally retarded persons, as the amount involved in their treatment is huge and cannot be done alone.
“The cost of treating these people is very expensive and we cannot afford them. We have been in existence through the courtesy of philanthropists who have been so helpful. We cannot leave these people to roam about on our streets posing security threats, we need to contain them, treat them and find something for them to do, and it’s all about money,” she emphasised.
She then urged the public to get closer to these people and help them to get out of their situation for the good of the society.
