The President of Breast Care International (BCI), Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Wiafe Addai, has urged Ghanaian women to stop patronising prayer camps in their bids to seek healings when they contract breast cancer, saying, the disease is not caused by spiritual powers and cannot to be treated spiritually.
She advised those who experience abnormal development in their breasts to report to the relevant health facilities rather than resorting to prayer camps and ends up aggravating their health conditions.
Dr. Wiafe Addai, who is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Peace Love Hospitals in Kumasi and Accra when addressing congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Nyinahin in the Atwima Mponua district of the Ashanti region, on Sunday February 18, 2018.
“As we speak now, there hasn’t been no cause of the breast cancer disease, attributing it to the cause of any super natural powers its very outrageous and cannot be accepted, Am not against visiting prayer camps for help, but you should report to the hospital first anytime you find something unusual in the breasts for early diagnose and treatment,” she appealed.
She also advised women to adopt the habit of regularly examining their own breasts, examining the breast monthly was the best way of checking any defect in the breast and they were shown on how to properly perform Breast-Self Examination (BSE).
“The alarming rate at which women are dying of breast cancer and other breast related diseases in the country demanded that all females, particularly the youth, undergo screening irrespective of their health status” she added.
She explained that breast cancer patients could live longer if the disease is detected early, and urged women not to panic anytime they are diagnosed of the disease.
The Minister in Charge of Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Nyinahin, Rev. George Bekoe Appiah-Korang in his appreciation speech to Dr. Wiafe Addai and her team, appealed to her to make the education on the deadly breast cancer disease known to those at the hinter lands, where they need it most.
He also said “it’s time Christians stop visiting prayer camps alone without seeking medical advice when they have challenges about their health, though I believe in prayers, some diseases like the breast cancer should be treated by medical experts.”
The programme, which was sponsored by the Delta Airline, was also attended by students of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School, were educated on breast cancer, hypertension and diabetes, and followed by clinical breast screening for all the female participants.
