Foase death toll now 4

A fourth person has died as a result of clashes between police officers and residents of Foase in the Ashanti Region.

Thirty-six-year-old Douglas Kojo Addai Mununkum died at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where he had been on admission for about three weeks.

Residents of Foase in the Atwima Kwanwoma district clashed with police as they demonstrated over the relocation of the district capital.

The police fired live bullets into the crowd to disperse the angry demonstrators, leading to the death of three people with several others sustaining various degrees of injuries.

The brother of the fourth deceased, Jacob Amankwah, is demanding President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo sets up a commission of inquiry to probe the shooting.

He told newsmen that: “There must be a commission of inquiry into the whole thing. A committee should have been set up by now … What we – the Foase people – want to know is: why we should be shot like that without any reason. Those perpetrators must be brought to book.”
