Asantehene appeals to government to complete the Boankra Inland Port Project

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11 has appealed to the government through the Minister of Transport to speed up and complete the Boankra Inland Port Project in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
According to the King of Ashanti Kingdom, when the Boankra Inland Port is completed and functioning, it will create jobs and ease the stress importers from the Northern sector of the country go through.
” verily, the people of Ashanti Region are much concern about the Boankra Inland Port Project because when it is completed it will create jobs for us and the northern sector as a whole” he said.
” But when we are talking about this, others says there is the need to fix the railway lines first, however, the railway lines are not yet to be fixed. The Boankra Inland Port project was started in your (NPP) administration and if you want to continue try and complete it for us. If you cannot do anything for me, try and complete the Boankra Inland Port for me” Otumfuo passionately appealed.
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu 11 made this appeal when the Minister of Transport, Hon. Ofori Asiamah, paid a courtesy call on him to outline measures being put in place by the Nana Addo led NPP government to complete the Port.
When completed, Boankra Inland Port would boost transit trade, serve importers in the Northern sector of Ghana and Landlocked countries of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger. The project which began in the year 2008 under Former President John Agyekum Kuffour administration had stalled for a years whilst structures already constructed have been deteriorating.
The Asante Monarch who is optimistic that this same government that started the project will accomplish it said it will be a lie and disappointed if they fail to complete it before their term of office ends.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Transport, Hon. Ofori Asiamah, assured that it is the priority of the NPP government to complete the much awaited Boankra Inland Port project to serve its intended purpose.
According to him, the contract would be re-awarded latest by July 2018 to ensure its completion.
