Seven killed in fatal car crash on Bolga-Bawku road

Seven people died whilst several others sustained various degrees of injuries when a mini bus with registration number GR-9895-N drove into an articulated truck parked on the shoulders of the Bolgatanga -Bawku Pulmakom high way.
The accident occurred on the Yikurugu stretch of the highway in the Bawku West district of the Upper East region.
Information gathered reveals that the dead and injured were in a Yutong bus from Kumasi and joined the mini bus in Bolga to their final destinations.
At the moment, four passengers are receiving treatment at the Bawku Presbyterian hospital and Zebilla government hospital.
As at the time of filing this report, the families of the deceased have identified and collected the bodies.
Meanwhile, the MP for Zebilla constituency and Deputy Upper East regional minister, Frank Fuseini Adongo was at the accident scene, commended the Bawku West Police Command for their quick response to the unfortunate incident.
Mr. Adongo also commended the Doctors and Nurses at the Zebila Hospital for being proactive.
The District Chief Executive for Bawku West, Victoria Ayamaba, appealed to district and regional road safety department to intensify it’s education.
Mrs. Ayamba charged the contractors working on the road to as a matter of urgency provide a speed rams on the road particularly the villages along the road.
She also lauded the Bawku West District Fire Service Officers for their support.
The Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom road since it was awarded to Mawums construction limited and a Brazilian Construction firm Guieroz Galvao in 2016 have recorded numerous accidents as a result of governments inability to release funds to speed up the construction of the road.
The Brazilian construction firm left site since February this year saying government has not been able to honour its eleven certificates issued last year.
Residents in Bawku who spoke to GBC24 appealed to government to as a matter of urgency release funds to enable the contractors fix the road on time.
